November 1st is a date that strikes anxiety upon high school seniors all over America.
For most schools, it’s either their early decision (binding) or early action (non-binding) deadline. According to Common App 53% of students apply early action and 13% apply early decision.
“Whether it’s early action or early decision, it’s a big deadline,” Future Plans Counselor, Patrick Brett said.
While Halloween may be the scary day before, for most seniors November 1st afflicts more fear into them. But what needs to be done after the big day has arrived? The answer is scholarships.
“My goal is to get out some scholarship opportunities for our students soon,” Brett conveyed.
But before Brett gets out his scholarship information to the Class of 2025, there is some work you can do on your own time to get ahead.
“There are two websites I highly recommend, one is https://www.goingmerry.com/. It’s a simple website where students can go in, make a free account, and put in their information. And based on what you put it they provide scholarships. There are a few that need essays, but for the most part, the information you put in your profile is what you need. You also won’t hear back from those scholarships until or after the deadline they state. Second, if you google “discover student loans scholarships,” there are scholarships with a similar format, and a lot of those are more essay based,” Brett described.
Don’t fret if scholarships are overwhelming because Mr. Brett will have your back!
“There will be a scholarship page available to all of our students,” Brett stated.
For the students who applied for the November 1st deadline, there is some time before you may hear back on your decision.
“For the November 1st deadline, students typically hear back between December 15th and December 20th,” Brett explained.
The college application process can be very stressful for seniors. If you were planning on applying for the November 1st deadline your application needs to be already submitted for your documents to be sent over, as conveyed by the Future Plans Center. Hopefully, seniors can enjoy their Halloween tonight and not stress over their scary college applications but be surrounded by scary costumes.
