LANSDALE – Scrolling on social media, especially TikTok, is a common pastime for many teens,. While this can pose an issue for focus among students, North Penn has seen a significant decrease in the need for disciplinary action since TikTok became popular.
On March 13, 2024, the House passed a bill that could lead to the nationwide ban of the beloved app, TikTok if it is not bought within the coming months.
With the referendum not passing, there is extra money in the school accounts, so there was an Administration meeting held on March 22 to determine which department this money would go to.
After much deliberation, it was decided that the communication department needed extra money to expand the TV studio, and with TikTok for sale, this was the perfect opportunity.
Because of this platform under North Penn ownership, administration has also voted to dedicate the final 10 minutes of each class period to making TikToks. Similar to the viral TikTok made by the class of 2025, their goal is to make the school go viral and bring in more money to be distributed throughout the district.
“Because of this new investment, I think we will see a great increase of student participation in school activities and the time dedicated to TikTok will help to advertise events that are happening, especially at the high school,” one teacher stated.
