North Penn to implement PDA rules
TOWAMENCIN- Throughout high school, many students fall in and out of relationships. Some last longer than others, some are more intimate than others, but all are unpleasant to the eye (no offense), especially at 7am in the morning. Starting this upcoming 2017-18 school year, North Penn will be implementing rules against public displays of affection (PDA) during school hours.
Due to the increased amount of couples “hanging all over each other” in the hallways, the school has decided that it would be best if rules were placed to stop such behaviors. The rules include the following:
- No kissing or excessive touching in the hallways or the cafeteria
- Walking each other to class IS acceptable BUT is limited to one class per person a day.
- No hanging out in the stairwells, hallways, etc.
More rules will be placed if necessary, but for right now, the school is focusing on the generalized problem.
“It’s kind of nauseating,” says Brianna Mims, a senior at North Penn. “I’m just trying to get to class without having to see a couple making out in the hallway. It’s weird.”
Of course the school doesn’t want to or even like to get involved in students’ personal lives, but this problem has gotten out of hand. They want to make sure this is strictly a place of learning rather than a place to hang out with significant others.
“I personally don’t mind, but I know others do. I think the school implementing rules is a little ridiculous but whatever works, works,” said Gayatri Joglekar, senior at North Penn.
Although the school is expecting a lot of backlash from these new rules, they are prepared to deal with it. When any new rules are made, people always have problems with it, but soon everyone will become accustomed to the new PDA rules.
If for some reason these rules don’t work out and public displays of affection are still at high rates, the school will either set up new, more enforced rules, or get rid of the rules altogether. This all depends on whether or not students want to follow the rules or not.
