Alumni Spotlight: Danté Watson on the fast track

Looking back, Danté Watson would have never guessed that his last high school track meet would be as life changing as it was. After finishing his last races for North Penn at states with personal bests in the 400m and 800m, he unexpectedly grabbed the attention of coaches from the University of Pittsburgh, a NCAA division l school.

“None of this could have been possible without the coaching and leadership from Coach Fluck and Coach Jones. They helped get me to where I am at now,” said Watson.

Favorite part about college- “My favorite part of college life is not having to wake up at 5:35 everyday and having only 3 classes maximum a day. Oh, and being able to eat soft serve ice cream as much as I want.”

What do you miss most about North Penn?- “I miss my friends at North Penn and the teachers there. Just playing sports with the same people since 10th grade and the things we accomplished is what makes me want to do high school all over again.”

Advice for high schoolers- “Please learn time management, and think about making the right decisions in high school, because they will impact you in a good or bad way later on in life. Associate with people that will make you a better person, as well as, encourage you to do positive things. Also, enjoy high school and enjoy life; don’t let negativity affect you from getting to where you want to go in life. Believe in yourself and your ability, because at the end of the day you will have neysayers, but it’s not about proving those people wrong,;it’s about proving yourself and the people who believe in you right.”
