TOWAMENCIN- While many students at North Penn don’t know the talents that their teachers possess, come next year, the whole world is going to learn about one of them. Season 28 of The Voice will hold space for a very special contestant …our very own assistant principal Mr. Kenneth Bui.
While his mellifluous voice is known to some around campus, Bui is ready to place himself even further into the spotlight. Right after his singing abilities became known on North Penn’s NPTV during the teacher’s karaoke day, Bui immediately applied for an audition with The Voice.
“After hearing the great feedback I gained after my debut, I knew there was something special to pursue in regards to my singing,” Bui said.
Just like the students that heard him sing on the Morning Show, the judges were filled with tears during his callback audition. Bui never knew the power he had with his voice until that special moment.
“After my callback, I landed a spot as one of the contestants…it feels really good to have my talents appreciated,” Bui stated.
While Bui is ecstatic to go on The Voice next year, he is worried that his skills might prohibit him from completing the season. Like many other contestants on talent shows like American Idol or America’s Got Talent, some have left after only a few rounds in order to enter a more professional chapter in their career.
“The only thing potentially getting in the way of me going all the way is me getting signed because of my immense talent. If I do, I would have to drop out of the show due to the label’s contracts and everything,” Bui commented.
However, Bui knows exactly what he wants to do if he manages to stay in the competition without leaving. No matter how talented the other contestants are, he wants to hopefully win it all.
“It would be amazing to come back to North Penn after my side quest with a first place trophy,” Bui stated.
After being asked which of the four current judges (John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, Adam Levine, and Michael Bublé) he would most love to work with, Bui immediately knew what team he would want to be on. To him, this team would make it the easiest to win.
“Oh, John Legend for sure. Without a doubt, his team would give me the best chances to win. I mean, have you heard Legend’s All of Me? Incredible song.” Bui said.
Bui’s radiant smile as he proceeded to sing All of Me by John Legend to prove his point was all-encompassing. Even to a stranger passing by, his love for singing is obvious. It’s not a hard thing to imagine him winning the competition, but what is hard is imagining how he’ll use his prize money.
“I’ve thought a long time about this, and if I win, I will use a portion of my dough to fund a new addition to the renovation starting later this year. I want to add a small auditorium to the side of the high school,” Bui stated.
He doesn’t just have the physical idea planned out either. Bui knows exactly what he wants to use this new area for when it is built a decade from now.
“I want it to be used for students who have dreams just like mine. Taught by yours truly, I’ll coach students to prepare for their first audition for The Voice. It’ll be a full circle moment, you know? I just love giving back to the community in any way I can, especially if that involves using my voice for the greater good,” Bui said.
Students and faculty can also participate in making Bui’s dreams come true by voting for him after each consecutive round. Come next year, use this link to vote: http//.www.youjustgotAPRILFOOLED.com
