The 90s and 2000s saw the debut of many rock and punk bands. Linkin Park, Blink-182, My Chemical Romance, and Green Day were just a few of the many groups that had a significant impact on the music industry just over twenty years ago.

Throughout 2024, many of these bands made explosive comebacks, ushering in a new era of rock music with every return to the spotlight.

Green Day kicked off this rock revival when they released their 14th studio album Saviors in January. Saviors performed relatively well, with fans and critics praising the band’s return to their old-school sound.

In June, Blink-182 started their One More Time tour. They played 32 shows from June to November 2024, with supporting acts such as Pierce The Veil, Alexisonfire, and Astronoid. The tour was very successful financially and it was also a hit among fans who finally had the chance to rock out to their favorite 00s songs.

The most shocking comeback happened in September when Linkin Park announced a new album, a tour, and most surprisingly, a new vocalist. This announcement came seven years after the unfortunate passing of lead vocalist Chester Bennington. Fans weren’t expecting a return, especially after founder Mike Shinoda expressed uncertainty about continuing the band.

Emily Armstrong, the new vocalist, brought back the classic Linkin Park energy while also contributing to a slight change to the band’s overall sound. Armstrong’s addition didn’t just come with a new sound though. She and the rest of the band worked tirelessly to release From Zero, the band’s first album in seven years. The album was considered very successful, especially because it topped music charts in ten different countries.

The 2024 rock revival concluded with My Chemical Romance’s Long Live The Black Parade tour announcement in November. This announcement seemingly came out of nowhere, as the band has not been very active in recent years, except for their reunion tour in 2019.

The tour will start on July 11, 2025, in Seattle, Washington, and will conclude on September 13, 2025, in Tampa, Florida. Supporting acts such as Evanescence, 100 Gecs, and Alice Cooper will appear throughout the tour. Fans are also entertaining the possibility of an album announcement sometime before or during the tour.

2024 was an exciting year for fans of rock and punk music. An abundance of tours and new music by famous bands turned the year into a trip back to the early 2000s.
