There have been quite a few controversies over the battle between Bob Casey and Dave McCormick, but Casey has now conceded. What does this mean specifically for the Pennsylvanians McCormick is going to represent?
McCormick believes Pennsylvania can be the powerhouse of the US. He wants to use all possible forms of energy production, and tap into Pennsylvania’s abundance of fossil fuels/natural gas in order for PA to become not just energy independent, but an energy exporter, leading to an energy independent US. He has so much faith in PA’s energy potential that he wants to move the US Department of Energy out of Washington D.C. and into Pittsburgh.
It’s not just the Department of Energy that he wants to change about D.C. Along with a myriad of other limits and dispersions of the government, he wants term limits for Congress, claiming that he himself won’t serve more than two terms.
He also stands strong on deregulation, wanting to restore Trump’s order that for each new regulation, two must be cut.
There’s a lot more to McCormick than one might think. Interestingly, something he cares about is cryptocurrency. He says that cities like Philadelphia and Allentown are poised to reap the benefits of the new age of digital currency.
McCormick is against a national abortion ban and supports exceptions for the life of the mother and in cases of rape and incest.
Family is a large focus, as McCormick plans to make the Paid Family and Medical Leave Employer Tax Credit permanent and expand it. He also wants to have a childcare and school choice tax credit available as well. He also wants to create a tax-free savings account families can use to pay for up to $10,000 per year in childcare costs, and double the child tax credit. Additionally, he wants to provide families with $15,000 in tax credits for IVF services.
McCormick has high hopes for a ban on people under 16 from social media. It seems like a lofty proposition, though it will surely have interesting consequences if actually able to be achieved. Similarly, McCormick is also interested in expanding mental health services.
On the other hand, defense is a key focus of his, as he is an outspoken supporter of firearms and law enforcement.
Nationally, McCormick believes defense industries/infrastructure need to be rebuilt. He says that can start right here in Pennsylvania, by firing up the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard again.
While these aren’t all of McCormick’s policies, these are some of the specifics that he outlined for Pennsylvania and its citizens. Time will tell whether or not he is able to fulfill his goals.
