This next book definitely takes a little bit of dedication. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas is only one book out of an eight book series. While I’ve only read 4/8 of the books, I’d say this was the best so far. At least in my opinion.
The Assassin’s Blade or the Throne of Glass series, follows an infamous, and heavily feared by the people of Adarlan, 17 year old Assassin, Celaena Sardothien, and her final few months before she was caught and sent to Endovier, an equally infamous death prison.
The Assassin’s Blade is a prequel to the Throne of Glass series; however, it can be read first, second, third, or fourth. I, personally, read it third and I think that was the best choice I have ever made.
The book is set up in 4 parts which are short and move fairly quickly. We get to understand a little bit of why Celaena acts the way she does and certain phrases she uses in the upcoming books. This is mainly why I enjoyed reading it third because I felt that Crown of Midnight left off at the perfect place where I could stop and go back to Celaena’s “start” while also helping me understand parts during Heir of Fire.
The author, however, is slightly controversial. With that being said, I compare her to J.K. Rowling in the sense that maybe we separate the art from the artist.
Overall, I thought this book, and the series so far in general, was so entertaining. I feel like the author sometimes writes just to write, but when there is a lot of action happening, it is very intense and honestly jaw dropping.
If you are ready to commit to a lengthy series, I urge you to pick this one up. I think it’s hard not to immerse yourself into the series once you start it. It’s a feel-everything book; so far, there hasn’t been a dull moment.
So with all that being said, I give this one a proud 5 stars!
