Imagine you and your friend having a conversation about the ups and downs of life. Recounting your friendships, what you learned, your good jobs, the bad jobs, and everything else in between. That is what reading Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton is like.
Dolly’s memoir includes everything from her young school years to recipes of her favorite dishes. Ultimately, it is a recollection of how she, as a young woman in her 20s, navigated through life. Through her different living situations, different friends, and different jobs, Dolly reports a genuine and realistic representation of figuring out life.
The way that Dolly writes as if you guys are friends and she’s sharing her story really drew me in. Her stories were short yet entertaining which kept the motivation high. Though it wasn’t seemingly in chronological order, it flowed together almost perfectly to the point where it still made sense.
This memoir rides in between a plethora of emotions. You’ll feel happy, sad, and understood yet also understanding. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel something because you’ll feel everything reading this.
Dolly Alderton also has a variety of other books; this memoir was even picked up into a short fictional adaptation series on peacock.
Overall, I’d give this book 4.5 stars. I think it is a great book to pick up when you don’t know what to read and need something short.
