Beautiful Little Fools by Jillian Cantor, released in 2022, is an incredible adaptation of The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Many people read The Great Gatsby for the first time in high school and to them, it’s just another required school book. But what if you got even more to the story?
I’m not always a fan of classic books adapted to a modern version, but because this was more a continuation of the story than anything, I loved it. Instead of being told from the perspective of Nick Carraway, it’s told from the perspective of the three important women; Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Catherine McCoy. And they have a mystery to solve.
Okay, heads up, spoiler if you haven’t read The Great Gatsby (this isn’t for you if you haven’t read The Great Gatsby yet). Jay Gatby dies. It’s sad, or maybe happy for some readers, depending on where you stand in your view of him. But what if the story we’re told of his death isn’t truly accurate? In this book you will get new perspectives and their lives leading up to the summer that he died, and how every little thing could have influenced his death.
By the end of this book, you’ll have an entirely different view of every character. This book honestly fits so well as a sequel/adaption to The Great Gatsby, and I promise it won’t ruin the original for you. Well, it might, because you might like this one better, but who am I to say anything.
Overall I’d recommend this book to anyone who loved or who hated The Great Gatsby. It’s one of my favorite, five-star reads from this year. If you’re looking for something fun and easy to read, this is it.
