Tired of the same music that always plays on your playlist? Don’t give up, there are so many albums to discover from many different artists. Here are a few more albums to take a listen to whenever you’re tired of the same songs on shuffle.
1: The Sun’s Tirade – Isaiah Rashad
Rashad’s 2016 sophomore album delivers on all fronts for the average rap listener. He combines his lyricism with smooth delivery to make a masterpiece that encapsulates his style. His laid back performances make this album a great one to listen to late at night. With features from Kendrick Lamar, SZA and more, Rashad delivers top to bottom on this project. It shines on the track Wat’s Wrong featuring Kendrick Lamar and Zacari, with other songs including Silkk da Shocka and Find a Topic are among the album’s highlights.
2: Into – Sonder
Sonder’s only released album to date presents an R&B experience for all listeners familiar with the genre. Sonder, consisting of popular artist Brent Faiyaz along with producers Atu and Dpat, collaborate to create a R&B project that utilizes excellent vocals coupled with amazing production. The album explores relationships and other heavy hitting topics all condensed into a 25 minute project, with songs like Too Fast and Care highlighting the short project. If you enjoy PARTYNEXTDOOR, Daniel Caesar, or other R&B artists you will thoroughly enjoy this album.
3: Body High – Lucki
Lucki’s sophomore album, Body High, delivers on every single track as a cloud rap masterpiece. The highlights of the album come in the form of 197 Trap Talk, Reflections, Witchcraft, and Count On Me 3. If you are a fan of A$AP Rocky’s freshman album, LIVE.LOVE.A$AP, I suggest that you put your headphones in and listen to this album. Released in 2014, the album transcends its time and provides immense replay value, as there is a new lyric to be discovered during every listen. Lucki is usually known for his extremely laid back delivery combined with upbeat production in his most recent projects, however, this project primarily has darker production with Lucki telling the listener about his day to day struggles. Body High over time became one of my favorite albums of all time, and may be one of the greatest cloud rap albums of all time.
4: Getaway – Orion Sun
Getaway is an alternative R&B and indie rock EP that packs content and vocals into a 17 minute experience. Orion Sun discusses love, grief, and more heavy hitting topics throughout her second ever project. Getaway does not have typical R&B production, however, the vocals mesh well with the alternative style. The EP goes through many different emotions starting with love and ending in complete saddeness. The highlights include intro and dirty dancer which may be some of the two best songs in her entire discography.
5: Across the Tracks – Boldly James and Conductor Williams
Across the Tracks is a collaboration between Detroit rapper, Boldy James and famous producer, Conductor Williams. If you don’t know who he is, you may recognize him from his famous “Conductor we have a problem” producer tag that plays at the beginning of songs he is a part of. James delivers a 26 minute lyrical masterclass with laid back delivery and elite lyricism, opting for a more literate way of making music rather than trying to create for radio listeners. The highlights of the project include Off-White Lumberjack and St. Juliana. If you are a fan of Mach-Hommy or Benny the Butcher this album will be for you, and if you enjoy this album I recommend looking into other albums in James’ discography. The Price of Tea in China and Super Tecmo Bo are a good place to start in his catalog of over ten albums.
