Sometimes making a career out of a love of sports doesn’t necessarily mean being a pro ball player. Prasham Jobanputra has proven that you can love sports, you can be involved in sports, and you can be a part of the team even if you don’t go on to play collegiate sports. Since graduating from North Penn in 2020, Jobanputra has taken every opportunity presented to him and run with it.
Jobanputra’s love for baseball throughout the years fueled his drive to succeed and take every opportunity that he was presented with. Currently at Drexel as a triple major in finance, business analytics, and sports business, he has had the opportunity for many internships and to be a part of something that most people don’t get to experience at his age.
“I went to the University of Pennsylvania to work for their football team as a recruiting and operations co-op. It was a lot of database management for their recruiting database that they use,” Jobanputra explained. “Then I networked with Kevin Bonner who works at UPenn and a part of his job is with the baseball team so I got to meet him and then he hooked me up with the head coach of the baseball team. I then started working with them a few months into my football co-op.”
His first internship was with Drexel before his next one at UPenn. He still currently works as an intern for the UPenn baseball team, even after his football co-op ended. He has been able to gain experience by helping with their analytics and operations, while also helping out at practices and with whatever the coaches and team needs.
“It’s been really cool to learn but also just being part of the team has been awesome because I really do love baseball. We were able to win a couple ivy league championships while I’ve been there. I’ve been there for two seasons, we’ve won twice. So that’s been a really cool experience to get to go to regionals, it’s something that not many people get to experience,” Jobanputra reflected.
Jobanputra has been involved in sports since he was in elementary school and over the years it has shaped into a more specific; love of the team, which has now helped him to shape his career path over the years.
“Being around sports teams when I was a kid, probably since I was in second grade… and into my freshman year of college, I think at the end of the day, the camaraderie when you’re with a team is such a good feeling,” Jobanputra explained. “I couldn’t say one single person influenced me but I think everyone that I interacted with, building a camaraderie with, building a relationship with. I mean, that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day. You’ll remember the wins and losses but more so you’ll remember the relationships you build, that get stronger as you go.”
And it wasn’t just his love for the team that guided him on his career path but also his passion for reporting while at North Penn. if you think being a triple major at Drexel is impressive, just remember that during his two years on the Knight Crier staff, Jobanputra wrote a record 224 articles.
“I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do but I knew through NPTV and Knight Crier, I wanted something to do with communications. I realized after a couple years in college that I wanted to be more a part of a team and contribute to the team’s performance rather than report about it,” said Jobanputra.
With graduation coming up soon there will be many more pathways open to Jobanputra and whichever one is best for him, will surely find him.
“It’s a huge accomplishment to be graduating and to see it out. And whenever I figure out what’s next, and then I go and do that, it’ll be another accomplishment and just a key milestone in my life,” Jobanputra reflected.
Jobanputra has accomplished so much at his age and there is only more waiting for him. With a whole world of opportunities ahead of him, he leaves some advice for anyone on their way to graduation whether it be high school or college, and really for anyone that can benefit from it.
