When the clock on October 31st turns from 11:59 pm to 12:00 am, a certain type of person is born. That person rips down all their Halloween/fall decorations, and starts to deck the halls with festive trimmings. Surprisingly, this is an extremely controversial opinion. It is argued everywhere whether the winter holidays start November 1st or after thanksgiving.
One of the biggest arguments is that celebrating right after Halloween skips Thanksgiving. However, how much of the month can we attribute to Thanksgiving? Obviously, despite differences, we can still accredit all of November for being a month of being thankful.
It doesn’t matter when your holiday spirit awakens.
Marley’s opinion:
I like to start decorating on November 1st. Having a December birthday, I tend to celebrate big for the holidays, merging them all into one. Since my family also goes big on decorating, it takes a lot of effort to put everything up and together so it just makes sense to have it up for longer and enjoy the festivities. I also only really think of Thanksgiving as three days of the month: the day before, the day of, and the day after.
Cate’s opinion:
I think you can decorate whenever you want! The holiday season brings people joy and if it makes you happy to decorate in August, then you do you. My family and I start to decorate mid November because we have a fake tree and like to keep it up as long as possible. It often takes us multiple days so we start sooner rather than later. The winter holidays bring me joy so I love to be in the season as long as I can. While Thanksgiving is great, I’m really only there for the food, so it’s not a big deal for me to start the holiday season before it.
North Penn’s opinion
In our video, we found out that out of the 7 people, they were more likely to say they decorate during Thanksgiving break/after Thanksgiving. But despite the varying responses, it is almost unanimously agreed that any time before October 31st is too early. Now we leave the question up to you guys, when do you decorate for the winter holidays?
