Many North Penn students have aspirations to be in major league sports. This goal has been completed by Tim McDermott, but not in the way most people would assume.
Tim McDermott is a North Penn alumni and the president of the Philadelphia Union. Over the weekend, he was inducted into the Lifetime Achievement Hall of Fame at NPHS. Members of the Knight Crier interviewed McDermott live, during an assembly on Friday afternoon.
While McDermott described his experiences in breaking into the sports industry, his main advice was learning how to deal with adversity.
“It’s hard to be the person who never gives up,” McDermott stated.
He explained his own experiences and how nothing came easy to him. He had to work hard and always tried to go the extra mile.
“Things don’t always go the right way. Sometimes you get knocked down. Sometimes you get fired. Sometimes things happen that you don’t plan, ” McDermott said.
“Life is hard, but you all have an opportunity to work hard,” McDermott added.
Being hard-working is something that McDermott strives to do every day. He firmly believes that this is one of the most important qualities in today’s world.
“You don’t need to be different, you don’t need to be special. Just work hard,” McDermott explained.
