Being a leader means many things to different people, but to senior Hailey Swyter it means helping others in their path of becoming a leader. She has been an active leader in and out of our North Penn community in many different ways, the drive for which was sparked by her journey with gymnastics.
“I’ve done gymnastics for ten years. It got to a point where I wasn’t really having fun with it anymore. Then coaching turned into something I have a lot of passion for and really enjoy doing. So after a couple years, I ended up becoming the head coach of a competitive team.” Swyter explained.
Swyter coaches girls between seven to fourteen years old at Precision Gymnastics, where she strives to listen and hear out her students.
“I am responsible for teaching people how to become better gymnasts. But also I’m teaching such a vulnerable age group of girls. I’m also helping them to build confidence.” Swyter said.
She doesn’t see leadership as a chore, but as a passion, pursuing it in and out of school.
“I’ve never seen it as a job. It also helps me organize my own thoughts when I’m helping other people through the process as well.” Swyter shared.
Swyter is involved in a multitude of activities such as model UN, mock trial, and music at North Penn. But outside of these halls she is working hard on her non profit organization based on her activities here, which she is hoping to expand. As of right now it contains a teacher and eight students. To achieve her goals, Swyter receives major support from her family.
“I’m so grateful for my family. They never hesitate to drive me around or cook a meal if I’m very busy…They’re always there to support me in any way they can.” Swyter explained.
Swyter’s family didn’t just have an important impact on her, however, but also on Kriya Shah, a class of 2024 North Penn alumni.
“Kriya Shah, my dear friend, has definitely had a big influence on me. I think we’re very similar people. Watching her accomplish so much and almost mentor me in a way has helped to drive my passion.” Swyter explained.
Swyter believes true leaders listen to the people around them. She strives to be the best version of herself everyday for the North Penn community, hoping to continue her passions in mock trial and student government after high school.
