TOWAMENCIN – With the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year, many clubs have already started planning and conducting their first meetings of the year. North Penn’s Math Club, has recently announced their plans for this year.
The Math Club is an essential part of any high school, offering peer support and learning resources for motivated students in the field of mathematics and giving opportunities for students to participate in math tournaments or summer programs, such as ROSS or PROMYS.
“We would like to increase the level of math knowledge in this school with the resources it has. With the situation that the math club is currently in, ” Math Club event Coordinator, Dmitrii Baltykov stated.
As with any other club at north penn, the math club suffers from a lack of funding which limits the opportunities it has. One of the planned events for this year would be a field trip to the National Museum of Math in New York City.
“I can say that possibly in the second semester, if we have money, because we don’t have any money in the Math Club, we will host a field trip to the national museum of math. But that is not guaranteed,” Baltykov stated.
The first meeting of the Math Club will be held on October second. Students will play Jeopardy and answer higher than SAT-level math questions and snacks will be provided.
“I think that two types of people will like Math club; People who are passionate about math, who want to compete in Math competitions and major in Math and people who just like math for fun, and they’re willing to play fun games at every meeting that we do,” Baltykov said.
Overall, the 2024-2025 academic year is calculated to be an interesting year for the Math Club, with many events and activities planned. Every student who likes math is welcome to join.
