In this installment of “What Can North Penn Do For You”, we take an in-depth look into what North Penn can do for students interested in Sports.
Are you underclassmen at North Penn High School? Are you interested in pursuing a degree or career in sport management, sports marketing, or sports medicine? Don’t know how to move forward? North Penn’s course and sports teams are available to you!
The Knight Crier is running a recurring feature on specific classes, clubs, and people to reach out to help students furthermore unravel their interests and achieve their educational/career goals after high school. In this installment, we will cover what opportunities North Penn has to offer for students interested in the various types of careers in sports.
Elective Classes
Athletic Training is a class that focuses on identifying injuries, conditioning tactics, and rehabilitation techniques. Students will have the opportunity to go on the sidelines of games to watch and/or help the athletic trainers, giving them a real-world experience. Any student interested in pursuing a career in athletic training, physical therapy, or any area of medicine should look to take this course.
Coaching/Officiating is a new physical education class coming to North Penn next school year. It will provide students with the opportunity to not only learn the rules of the game, but all the facets involved with being a coach, such as goal setting, the coaches’ various roles, ethical conduct, and coaching youth sports. With the wide variety of sports available at North Penn, you could learn how to officiate many different sports such as football, tennis, lacrosse, etc. After successful completion of this course, students can find coaching and/or officiating positions and volunteer opportunities.
Sports & Entertainment Marketing is a semester course that splits its classes to cover both sports and entertainment marketing. This course covers how to market a team to a specific city or fanbase. Students have the opportunity to create their marketing strategy for a sports franchise. There are various technologies and simulations that students will use to further their understanding of marketing a sports team.

Managing an NP Sports Team
Every team is always looking for more help, recruiting students as team managers. You can contact any of the coaches or our current athletic director Mr. Berger. Students could get real hands-on experience with whatever sport they chose to further their understanding of the sport and what it takes to help manage a team.

Mr. Kyle Berger
Mr. Berger is the interim Athletic Director and can help you find any sports team who may need some extra help or a manager. If you intend to go into the sports world, managing a team is a way to further your experience and add to your resume.
Mr. Christopher Frey
Mr. Frey is the current head of student activities and runs the CHIP program at North Penn. The CHIP program is available to all students and can be done during the school day or outside of school. Students have 3 options to choose from: Internships, field trips, and academic connections. The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken are always looking for volunteers and interns to help out with tournaments for the various sports that they offer.
