California is a state that is renowned for its many attractions such as its stunning beaches, famous Hollywood celebrities, and delectable cuisine. However, California is also home to some of the finest coffee shops in the world. During my Thanksgiving trip to California, I made it a point to visit a few of these coffee shops and see how their offerings are different from our local coffee spots.
My first stop was Blue Bottle Coffee, a pioneer in the artisanal coffee movement. Their airy, sun-drenched space exuded a sense of calm and sophistication. Their meticulously crafted pour-overs showcased the intricacies of single-origin coffees, each cup revealing a symphony of flavors and aromas. I decided to try their Cafe Mocha; after my first sip, I realized that the mocha was not overly sweet, which allowed the flavors of the coffee to shine through; however, I could not taste the chocolate. The drink was very bitter and not sweet to my liking. I give it a rating of 5/10.
Next, I ventured to Philz Coffee, a neighborhood favorite known for its personalized coffee-making approach. I opted for their “Mint Mojito,” a refreshing and unique take on iced coffee made with cold brew coffee, fresh mint leaves, and a touch of sweetness. As I sipped the drink, I was greeted by a wave of invigorating mintiness that awakened the senses. The mint leaves added a slight texture, subtly contrasting the smooth coffee base. I was a big fan of the mint mixed with the flavor of coffee and rated this a 10/10.
My coffee adventure concluded with Verve Coffee Roasters, a vibrant hub for coffee enthusiasts. As I walked in, their bustling atmosphere buzzed with conversation and the tantalizing aroma of freshly brewed coffee. I decided to try their Matcha Latte with vanilla flavoring. The Matcha Latte is a delightful beverage that perfectly encapsulates the essence of matcha green tea. With ceremonial-grade matcha, steamed milk, and a hint of sweetener, the latte offers a harmonious blend of earthy matcha flavors, creamy milk, and subtle sweetness. The combination of matcha and steamed milk on my first sip was perfect; there was no grittiness or bitterness, only a smooth and creamy texture. I loved this iced matcha latte and would rate it an 8/10, only because it was not as sweet as I had hoped.
Whether you are an experienced coffee lover or a curious beginner, coffee shops in California guarantee an adventure into the realm of brewing and delightful tastes.

I’ve never been to Cali, and had no idea they were known for their coffee! I’ll certainly have to try these locations when I do go visit 🙂
