Alumni Spotlight: Erik Jesberger, voice of the Reading Royals
From broadcasting games on NPTV to joining the Reading Royals as the Director of Communications, Erik Jesberger turned his passion for sports into a full-time career.
A surplus of opportunities at North Penn with NPTV as well as Mr. Kyle Berger’s help allowed Jesberger to pursue his passion as a high schooler and as well as leading him to be where he is today.
“Mr. Berger taught me what to do as a sophomore and with WNPV Radio Network him, and I would go and cover high school football games on Friday nights,” Jesberger explained.
Not only did NPTV and his first internship with Mr. Berger help him pursue his broadcasting dreams, but so did baseball. Jesberger explained how he continues to use the skills he learned in high school in his career now as a play-by-play announcer.
“When I was younger I enjoyed playing baseball, which led me to my broadcasting career and it really helped me prepare for the big moments,” Jesberger stated. “Being able to have so many advisors and individual relationships with faculty was definitely my favorite part of high school and also activities like Knight Crier and North Penn Television.”
After graduating from North Penn in 2020, Jesberger pursued Media Studies and Production major at the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University. At Temple, he is a reporter for OwlSports Update, an on-air talent for WHIP radio as a weekly show host, and a broadcaster during the Temple football and basketball seasons.
“I started my time with the Reading Royals as a Media Broadcasting Manager, and when I was given the opportunity to become the Director of Communications it was a go for at the moment. I was willing to go into my comfort zone,” Jesberger said.
While becoming the play-by-play announcer for the Royals, he has been involved in many events held in their arena, such as Women in Sports night. Panelists included Aly Clauson, Makayla McKinney, Tammy Dahms, Alissa Persichetti, Renee Hellert, Joely Griffith & Fox 29 Philadelphia, WTXF’s Breland Moore.
“We had our first Women in Sports night and we had 200+ audience members listening. It was nice to see so many women pursue their passion in a male dominated field,” Jesberger said.
As Jesberger nears graduating college a year early, he is looking into more essential things in the future.
“I’m looking forward to finalizing my broadcasts and achieving bigger goals, whatever that may be,” Jesberger stated.
