North Penn Senior Lucy Lee is almost at 30,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel.

Lucy Lee begins adding music to the videos she recorded in Delaware Bay for fun but she soon realizes she has no place to store the videos. Out of desperation she uploads the video to YouTube.

The video she recorded in Delaware Bay during elementary school reached 1,000 views…Lucy’s YouTube journey began from here.

“I brought professional cameras and professional editing apps. I also took a private lesson for editing. It kind of grew from there,” Lee said.

Her channel contains a wide range of content. Her videos include daily vlogs, productive days as a high school senior, song covers, and beauty content. During the pandemic, she officially launched her channel in the hopes of inspiring other students to complete their schoolwork.

“There’s so many other beauty influencers who could be toxic by posting content that could be manipulating teenage girls. I want my social media platforms to be a place where students can get motivated and where we can grow together,” Lee added.

One of her goals for starting YouTube was to help others. She worked with a skin care sponsor named IZIA, a Korean skincare brand where she sold their items on Instagram and donated the majority of the proceeds to a humanitarian organization.

She enjoys posting travel content in addition to her usual videos. Her most recent travel videos features her in New York and South Korea.

“ I really like travel content because I get to visit a good place and recommend it to other people,” Lee explained.

The majority of her videos are shot with a Canon camera and her iPhone. She edits with Adobe Premiere Pro and a mobile app called VVLO.

The importance of the trend was one of the most important lessons Lucy learned. If the content being posted corresponds to YouTube trends, such as the music choices in the video, it is more likely to receive views.

“One day I would get 100k views but the other day I get 3k views. It really depends on the content and the upload day. On Friday I get the most views but on Monday morning I get 0 views,” Lee said.

Due to the inconsistency of views on YouTube she wants to pursue the field of Business while keeping YouTube as a side hobby.

She discourages people from sponsoring brands that are bad just to earn money and says to have a bigger motivation behind opening a YouTube channel.  She expressed the importance of being “genuine” and “truthful” on social media platforms.

Lucy offers advice to others who want to start a YouTube channel.

“Be consistent because it is not easy to get a bunch of subscribers in a short amount of time. You can’t expect that people will follow you and watch your videos because you post. Interact and engage with your subscribers. Sometimes, there could be hate comments but you have to have mental strength,” Lee added.
