Some furry friends at the rescue

Do you want a treat? Find one, in dog form, at Home At Last Dog Rescue!

Home At Last Dog Rescue is a group of volunteers who save dogs’ lives by fostering and then adopting out dogs. They save dogs off of the streets, out of high-kill shelters, and from surrendered dogs in order to provide them with a better life. Tracy Neill, a volunteer at the rescue for the past eight years, has adopted out many dogs serving as a foster.

“We pull dogs from various shelters and provide foster homes until they are adopted. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy mill and pet store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for, and ultimately, the supply of, such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home,” Neill said.

You don’t need to walk around the neighborhood to find many treats from Home At Last dog rescue. The Home At Last website has everything you need to adopt a dog. The adoptable dog page has a picture and biography for each dog at the rescue. There are many dogs to choose from representing many breeds & ages. Once you find the dog you think is right for you, you should complete an online application. If your application is approved, the dog will visit your home and the vet to make sure you are the right fit. Once you pass the final checks and pay the adoption fee, you and your dog will be united! Be sure to have your home ready as soon as possible because they will need to be dropped right away.

“We cannot hold dogs for a future adoption date. Holding an animal in a foster home would mean we’d have less space available for animals that are in life-or-death situations and need our help. If you are interested in a specific animal that is ready for adoption, you must be prepared to adopt right away,” Neill said.

Adopting a dog may not be feasible for everyone so Home At Last provides other ways for you to get involved. Donations can be sent through Venmo, Paypal, or the Amazon wishlist available under the ‘donate’ tab on their website. Fostering, or temporarily housing a dog in your home, helps the growing rescue save more dogs.

“We showed up at one of Home At Last’s meet and greet events in Bluebell about eight years ago because I had seen their post online and I wanted to be involved. We went to a meet and greet, introduced ourselves, and filled out an application to foster while we were there. One of the ladies came to our house that same day to do a home visit and we started fostering the next week! And we’re still doing it and we love it because it’s so rewarding,” Neill said.

Do you want to go for a walk? Join Home At Last at their 8th annual Howlween!

Howlween is Home At Last’s Halloween-themed 5K Dog Walk on October 29th at Parkside Place Park in North Wales. The event consists of a 5K run/walk, and a 1-mile dog walk. Four-legged friends are welcome to attend every activity, making this event unlike any other in the area.  And of course, because this is an event during the spookiest season of the year, humans and dogs alike are encouraged to come in costume. Participants can create teams to raise money for the rescue with rewards and medals being presented to the top fundraiser. You can find more information about the event on their social media and website.
