Fun Halloween activities for this Fall
It’s that time of year again! The leaves are turning shades of crimson and orange, and the wind has a crisp feeling. Everyone’s favorite holiday, Halloween, is just around the corner. So get some costumes ready and grab both some Halloween and face masks.
Unfortunately, last year’s fall activities were limited due to the spreading of COVID-19. Many people were very disappointed. But luckily the fall festivities are starting to begin again! There are a bunch of local places to check out!
Merrymead Farm’s “Fall Harvest Days 2021,” starts on Saturday, October 2nd. They will continue every weekend during the month of October with a variety of fall inspired activities. Some include hayrides on their farm, classic fall treats, and of course their “Moonlight Maze.” Merrymead is a great place to visit for some fun autumn activities for any age!
There are also plenty of options for a scarier fall experience! Scream Mountain, located at Spring Mountain, offers a good scare! Their activities include a chairlift up the “mountain” and a haunted walk down. Then at the bottom, there will be a haunted hayride as well. This may not be for everyone but no worries! They offer a hayride while it is still light out so everyone can get a feel for if this activity would be great for them! Scream Mountain is open every Friday and Saturday during October, weather permitting.
If Scream Mountain is not enough of a scare, the Eastern State Penitentiary’s “Halloween Nights” offers a daunting haunted adventure! Although it is a bit of a drive, this attraction is brand new, it has taken the place of Eastern State Penitentiary’s “Terror Behind the Walls.” It has a couple of haunted houses, different walk through experiences, and more. Eastern State Penitentiary does state that regardless of being vaccinated or not everyone must wear a mask to enjoy their attractions.
Although everything seems to be going back to normal it still is important to practice safe COVID-19 precautions. It is also important to check any fun fall events happening to see if they require a mask as well. This can help to make sure everyone has a happy and healthy fall!

Your story is loaded with great Halloween choices. I think I’d love the Spring Mountain chairlift and haunted hike. Will you try it? You are a very great journalist I am so happy that Granny Phyllis is sharing them with me!
