Last night, May 28th, began the 14th season of America’s Got Talent, a show that features dancers, magicians, comedians, and many more as they all compete to win the million dollar grand prize. For those who have seen the show before, you must know that each episode concludes with the use of the golden buzzer – a gateway to the live shows. Each judge has one opportunity to push his or her golden buzzer, sending its respective contestant straight to the live episodes. Last night, new judge Gabrielle Union did just that after meeting contestant Kodi Lee and experiencing his true talent.

Before Kodi shared his gift, Kodi’s mother was given the chance to share his story with the millions watching on TV.

“When you’re autistic it’s really hard to do what everybody else does. It actually has saved his life, playing music,” she shared.

Not only does Kodi have autism, but must also live his life blind. These two ‘setbacks’ may not make his life, and the lives of those around him, easy, but after the performance he gave, it can be made clear that his singing abilities provide a sense of hope and happiness, bringing people in the audience, and judges Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough, to tears.

“I’m ready,” Kodi shouted with enthusiasm, as he was the guided to the piano by his mother, left to stun the audience with his unique talent. Singing a powerful cover of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You,” he earned himself a spot in the live shows.

All four judges, along with the entire live audience, were on their feet at the end of the performance, emphasizing how skilled Kodi really was. After Kodi and his mother left the stage, the episode ended, and my opinions started to form.

Last night being the premiere of the season, there are still tons of acts that have yet to perform, but I honestly think that Kodi Lee has a chance to win the million dollar prize. His voice is incredible. The use of rifs and a perfectly-pitched melody gave him a trip to the live shows, and to be honest, I think they will give him one million dollars. I was speechless after he finished his audition, and I know I was not the only one who was stunned.

America’s Got Talent showcases act after act – some that are memorable and some that you forget the next day. . . and Kodi will never be forgotten. His story is inspiring, his voice is unique, and overall, his chances of winning are growing by the minute, as his audition video is being viewed at a fast rate. Have you seen Kodi’s audition yet? At the end of the day, I have no doubt this season will be one to remember, especially with Kodi Lee as a contestant. It will be a hard and long-fought battle, but I guarantee that Kodi will be standing on the Finale Night stage.
