Marine and Botanical Society host pumpkin carving party
TOWAMENCIN- On Halloween, the Marine and Botanical Society hosted their first pumpkin carving party. Members of the Marine and Botanical Society, as well as some friends who tagged along, gathered in C16 after school to get into the Halloween spirit.
The Marine and Botanical Society is a club designed for members to have opportunities to create projects involving plants and fish. Members propose their ideas to the student board, who vote on funding the projects. Some possible projects for this year are getting a seahorse tank and growing 10 of the world’s hottest peppers. The money raised at this event can go towards these student projects.
“We have wanted to do this for a while now, and we are really happy to do it this year. We hope to do it next year and get even more people to raise money for the club to fund the student projects,” said Club advisor Mr. Shane Misuro .
The cost to carve a pumpkin was $4 a pumpkin, so I took my friend along and we shared a pumpkin. It was really interesting to see all of the creative designs people carved into their pumpkins.
“This reminds me of my childhood, I have missed pumpkin carving! This has been really fun, and I like the cat I carved,” said senior Lauren Wolfe.
The designs of the pumpkins ranged from flowers, to cats, to words, to faces. Junior Brett Katz, went with a typical jack-o-lantern. “This is the first time I’ve ever carved a pumpkin before. I was taught today by Caitlyn Tucker. I got my design off of Google and it was very fun,” he said.
The board members of the Marine and Botanical Society were happy with the turnout of students at the event. Board member Paige Moore enjoyed the event and shared, “It’s a fun part of Halloween that we can do at school, and it’s amazing to see people come out to carve pumpkins.”
The Marine and Botanical Society were happy to host the pumpkin carving party and hope to make it an annual event. Be sure to look out for all of the creatively carved pumpkins which will be displayed Halloween night and the day after in front of the school.
