Katie Solomon, class of 2016 graduate, poses with a t-shirt quilt made of memories from home that she brought with her to Penn State.
Alumni Spotlight: Catching with former SGA president Katie Solomon
Students and staff may remember her as the President of Student Government last year, but now Katie Solomon isn’t filling her day with North Penn events; she is filling it with new experiences at Penn State University. As long as Katie could remember, she always wanted to attend PSU.
“Penn State is actually the only school I applied to, because I knew it was where I wanted to be. I can honestly say I haven’t had a single regret about that choice. I am able to get an amazing education, stand in the craziest football student section of the Big 10, get involved in the world’s largest student-run philanthropy in the world, and much more all in the same place.” said Solomon.
Favorite part about college- “Besides not having to go to class before 11 A.M. on most days, my favorite part of college so far has been getting able to experience so many new things even in just this first month. I have met a lot of people from every kind of background that have opened my eyes to more of what is out there in the world. Yesterday I saw R.J. Mitte, or Walt Jr. of Breaking Bad speak, tonight I have a paper due at 3 A.M. and tomorrow I am going to a Kanye West concert..basically every day here is a new and unpredictable adventure, which is what I love. I am so excited to see what else will happen in the next four years.”
What do you miss most about North Penn?- “I definitely miss a lot of my friends and teachers that I had while in high school, especially while sitting in lecture halls with 250 people where I do not know anyone. However, with so many North Penn kids here at school there’s always a piece of home around when I need it. Also free textbooks, I miss that.”
Advice for high schoolers- “Everyone says this, but high school goes by so incredibly fast so enjoy every single moment of it while you can. Before you know it, you’ll be moving on to college or the next chapter of your life so get involved and make endless memories now before you graduate!”
