SGA President Solomon makes presence known in community
From middle school to the annual North Penn activities fair, we have been pressured to get involved. Whether in sports, music, art, or volunteer work, our parents and teachers have stressed the importance of joining different clubs, teams, and organizations. For some this might have been a redundant spiel going through one ear and out the other, but this was certainly not the case for senior Katie Solomon.
Previously serving as senator and spirit chair, Katie ran for and won the position of SGA president last school year.
“I am currently the president of the Student Government Association, meaning I am responsible for overseeing all of SGA’s members, meetings, and events and to represent North Penn,” expressed Solomon.
She has attended other leadership conferences and programs as well.
“I have presented three times at the PASC (Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils) state conference and attended two summer leadership camps at Susquehanna University and University of Pittsburgh,” stated Solomon.
Along with her presidential status in student government, Solomon is also an active member of band and various clubs here at North Penn.
“I have auditioned and played tuba all three years in the North Penn Wind Ensemble. I also play for the brass ensemble, orchestra, and jazz band. Additionally, I auditioned and placed in PMEA’s district and region band and I hope to make all state this year. I have also auditioned for and attended Penn State University’s Honors Music Institute,” Solomon explained. “I am [also] a general member of the French Club and the National Honor Society. I will be joining FBLA this year and also will be helping to plan the mock republican convention in the winter.”
Aside from her involvement with school and band, Solomon works at Freddy Hill Farms where she sells ice cream. She also babysits each week after school and regularly volunteers and donates blood to the American Red Cross.
Despite all of these activities that Solomon juggles on a daily basis, she still cherishes moments with her family and friends and makes times for doing things that she loves.
“I spend a lot of time with my family; they mean the world to me,” mentioned Solomon. “I live with my mom and have three siblings, two of which are older and don’t live at home anymore so whenever I get the chance to spend time with them it’s very special.”
Solomon’s favorite thing to do outside of school is to attend concerts and live music events.
“[The concerts I’ve been to] range drastically,” Solomon expressed. “I’ve been to see professional symphony orchestras, but I’ve also seen Kanye West, Foster the People, Coldplay, and smaller names like Cherub and the Dirty Heads. Truly, I don’t care how big the name is as long as it’s good music.”
In the future, Solomon hopes to attend Penn State University, University of Michigan, or Boston University to major in a subject that will help her get into an excellent law school and eventually become a lawyer. She also would like to minor in/continue studying French.
“I live by the idea that things happen the way that they are supposed to and to always be yourself,” concluded Solomon. “Don’t be afraid to live your life the way you want to. We only get one chance at this thing so why not make the most of it?”
