North Penn’s Faia takes talents to Grand Ole Opry
October 23, 2014
TOWAMENCIN – Josh Faia is about to have the music experience of a lifetime. The North Penn High School junior who has been playing the trumpet since he was 10 is finally seeing his work pay off. Faia will be attending the All National Concert Band this weekend in the music capital, Nashville, Tennessee.
The All National Concert Band isn’t your regular high school concert band; it is the cream of the crop and to add, extremely selective. In order to partake in this event, he first had to give his audition to the All State Concert Band. The auditions were accepted from all high school students around the country in all 50 states. For the trumpet section that Faia is playing in, a mere 15 players were selected among the thousands of trumpet players in America.
“This weekend, I will be going Nashville where they rehearse concert music with world renowned music director, Mark Camphouse,” he said.
They will be performing at the Grand Ole Opry in a front of approximately 4000 people. Beside the big show on Wednesday, there are a lot of other events Faia will be partaking in this weekend in Nashville. There will be of variety of workshops to help him master his craft
“There is always room for improvement,” said Faia.
Surprisingly, Faia does not come from a musically inclined family.
“I started playing because I thought it would be fun,” mentioned Faia.
He found his passion to play the trumpet in the 4th grade and since then, has striven to become the greatest.
“I just practice whenever I get a chance to,” he said. And those hours of hard dedication certainly has paid off; he will be performing in front of 4000 people and among the greatest high school musicians around the country.
Faia’s musical influences include Jimi Hendrix. Outside of playing the trumpet, he is a talented singer. But most people recognize him as the trump playing mastermind.
And for his future? You guessed it. He is pursuing a doctorate in music: avant gard performance on sub-contrabass ocarina, with a little baroque trumpet playing on the side to be exact.
“I don’t mind being recognized as a gifted trumpet player,” Faia said.
He would like to thank his teachers for letting everyone know that he is an adept trumpet player.
