A relatively new app that is growing in popularity, QuizUp is not your average trivia game.
With categories like Logos, Name the TV Show, Disney, and Pokémon, a player can randomly challenge another user or a Facebook friend to see who has the most knowledge in a specific category. If a TV show has a strong following, like Friends or The Walking Dead, it will most likely have a category to test your knowledge. Asked a series of seven questions, players compete against each other and the clock to gain points and win the trivia battle. As you gain points, you rise up in rank in specific categories, and, if you reach a certain level, you can choose to have a different title instead of given names like ‘Beginner’ and ‘Novice’. Such names include Arcade Hero in Classic Games, Smartypants in General Knowledge, and my own personal title, Demon Slayer for the TV category Supernatural. These titles, along with badges for specific achievements, provide incentives for players to continue challenging one another and win the trivia match.
QuizUp does have educational trivia categories, but also expands to include pop culture and mass media facts, a more unique feature that allows players to learn about and become experts in topics they are genuinely interested in.
