TOWAMENCIN-While most students were cramming for AP exams, AP Studio Art students prepared themselves for a different kind of test; a cumulative showcase of their works from over the course of the school year. The class of 20, including 19 seniors, each chose and showcased different concentrations ranging from Seven Deadly Sins to One with Nature in the high school’s J-pod or “Art pod” last Thursday night. Surrounded by friends, family, and art lovers, the students were able to show off their individual pieces and concentrations.
According to Art Department Chair and course teacher Mrs. Joanne Harris, “This show is the accumulation of all the hard work and talents of our AP Studio Art students at North Penn High School. These students have to complete twenty-four quality works of art in one school year. Students will be submitting digital images of all their work to Collegeboard this week in addition to five of their actual pieces. We have the show so that ALL of their work can be displayed. North Penn AP Studio Art students are so creative, talented and have such a strong work ethic. I am so proud of every one of them!”
The show was equally as exciting for teachers like Harris, exhibited students, and friends and families that came to see the fruits of the artists’ labors.
“What makes this show stand out is seeing [all the hard work] come together. From the start of this year it has been cool seeing my peers ideas evolve and come to life,” explained senior AP Art student Brad Rosenberger.
Many AP art students are heavily involved in other extracurricular activities, and with the amount of time art student must dedicate to their pieces, it certainly comes to be a lesson in time management.
With very few being able to balance school work and extracurricular activities, senior swimmer, water polo player and art student David Jordan explained that “it takes a lot of dedication and time especially for [student-athletes like] me… it’s sometimes very stressful.”
All in all, the exhibit can be summed up by senior attendee Haley Sienkiewicz who commented “Seeing how everyone’s pieces came together was really cool and makes you realize how much talent is in J-pod.”
