Sushi is undoubtedly a trending lunch special, as it is not only deemed as a healthy choice of meals, but also because a new restaurant in town is suppressing any prior beliefs that sushi is an overpriced meal bound to leave you continually famished even after devouring your meal.
Oki Sushi opened this March with it’s All You Can Eat motto and its daily specialty: all you can eat sushi. Located just across from the high school on Valley Forge road, the tiny restaurant is nestled in the Weis’s shopping center among the dairy queen, nail salon, and game stop.
It is open daily for lunch and dinner with hours generally varying between noon and ten depending on the day of the week. Fortunately for all North Penn students who want to sooth any sushi cravings, the lunch special prices are continually served up until 3pm on weekdays complete with miso soup and a house salad.
Take out is available and takes several minutes to prepare as the food is made fresh to order; Overall, though, the most popular is the all you can eat sushi where dine in customers pay a fixed price of $18.95 for lunch or $21.95 for dinner. The customer gets to choose various options à la carte with pickings from the sushi bar (sashimi, sushi, maki rolls, or hand rolls) or from the kitchen (for any customer who likes their fish a little more cooked than “just recently swimming”). A personal favorite would be the house salad with ginger dressing and edamame (soy beans) as starters finished off with a spicy dragon super roll fixed with spicy crabmeat, tuna, and tempura flakes all topped with eel and avocado.
Also available from the kitchen are various teriyaki entrees including tofu and even salmon or crispy batter fried tempura dishes. There are even vegetarian friendly menu items such as the intriguing mango avocado roll or the sweet potato tempura roll, which are not usually seen on sushi menus. And no meal is complete without a little ice cream dessert. Oki Sushi serves red bean or green tea ice cream with an optional topped fried banana. Yum.
As a raw fish lover, I can’t help but to love their colorful sashimi assortments, which is reasonably priced for the quality and taste of the fish. Not to mention, the portion sizes are more than filling, so costumers are definitely getting their money’s worth; however, as prices are fairly cheaper compared to the price’s up the upscale dinning at Osaka or Umai, I was not overly impressed with the sushi rolls. There is no doubt that Oki Sushi definitely beats Joa Sushi by far in terms of quality and taste, yet they are nowhere comparable to the high end gourmet eminence of Osaka.
In general though, the novel restaurant is eagerly welcomed with its authentic menu, serene ambiance, and agreeable pricing, and proves to be a tempting and enticing choice especially for lunch on early dismissal days or even for weekend dinner out with friends.
