PHILADELPHIA – On a beautiful sunny afternoon, members of the North Penn High School French Club boarded a bus and headed down the Blue Route and into Philly to immerse themselves in the French culture by indulging in French cuisine at the La Crêperie Beau Monde.
After entering the quaint French style crêperie, we were seated and prepared to treat ourselves to 3 savory crêpes and 3 sweet crêpes. The savory crêpes included egg, swiss, and ham crêpe, spinach, tomato, olive, and feta crêpe. My personal favorite the andouille sausage, ratatouille and caramelized tomato sauce crêpe. The sweet crêpes that we chose from were a pear, chestnut cream, and chocolate crêpe, a banana and nutella crêpe, and lastly a freshly squeezed lemon and sugar crêpe.
Once served our crêpes, most of us divided our crêpes with people who got different ones, so we could taste all that there was to offer. Everyone had their favorite crêpe.
French club advisor Mlle Assous decided that her “favorite crêpe was the chestnut cream chocolate and pears,” explaining, “I definitely liked the sweet one better this time.”
The crêperie trip was not only a trip full of delicious food, but a cultural experience for all who attended.
“I think sometimes in the classroom we don’t have enough time to fit culture into the curriculum, so by doing things cultural outings I think that this satisfies their need and their curiosity,” explained Assous.
“This was the third time we did this trip…we did it last year. The crêperie we work with is so easy very accommodating and the group that usually goes is very polite,” continued Assous.
Many of the club members enjoyed the French experience including junior Tina Thomas.
“I loved being able to spend time with people and be a part of the people French Culture and the crêpes were delicious, of course! I liked my sweet one crêpe better, I have a bit of a sweet tooth,” said Thomas.
If you would like to be a part of French Club or any of the other language/culture clubs at North Penn, “at the end of May we have the World Cup, so I am working with Mrs. Marino to do that and we’ve expanded so we invited the SALSA Club and we have reached out to some other clubs as well,” finished Assous. The date of the World Cup is May 23rd.
