For her incredible talent and passion, senior Ashley Walter has been chosen to be Knight Crier Student Artist Spotlight.
Walter–who takes AP art classes at North Penn–uses art as a form of self-expression and release.
“For me, art is release of thought. When words or music or live performance can’t do justice to communicate your ideas, you can express it through line, through color, through visual concepts. Art for me has emblazoned my perception. The world is a beautiful exhibit, but it is also my canvas,” says Walter.
Besides just creating art, Walter has an appreciation for art created by others: “I love to critique and understand the concepts that other people have to convey through their art. Everyone needs an outlet.”
Walter named three artists her favorites: Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, and Don Maitz.
Maybe one day, her name will be on that list for another.

Peter Catalanotto wrote a book called “Emily’s Art”. It is my favorite book because Emily learns that art is an expression of yourself and you should never give up your vision for anyone. Be persistent…never give up! Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it…don’t allow the daily humdrum of life to bury your art. Peter Catalanotto once told me to “remember to do YOUR best”. I liked where you noted that “everyone needs an outlet.” I see your art as more than an outlet, but an extension of your soul. Perhaps if one can stop and really allow themselves to open their minds to the colors, the textures, the shapes around them they can fully immerse themselves in the true experience of life. I hope you will use your vision to educate and share your vision with others.
We are very proud of you! I clearly remember meeting you for the first time (on the day you were born). We were all so happy you joined our crazy family! Continue to be yourself…you are doing just great! We love you and we are very proud of you!
