Chess season at North Penn began with Knight to K133, as the Chess Club hosted its first meeting yesterday. The game of chess originated in India, but spread throughout the world and captured the attention and fascination of hundreds of players, with North Penn being no exception.
“I say we have about 50 people in the google classroom and usually around 30 regulars. Every meeting we just have free play and then sometimes we have league matches against other schools.” Chess club president, Advaith Kollipara stated
The club is open to all students who are interested in learning and playing chess, no prior knowledge or experience is required, but for those who are interested in playing chess at a competitive level, they can try out for the Chess Team.
The chess team made significant accomplishments throughout their history, shining a bright light into North Penn’s students and their ability to make a name for themselves.
“We won the inner school league, which is the regional league, and then we got second at states and the year before we got first place at states.” Kollipara mentioned
Chess club meetings are held every Tuesday after school in K133. Participants can play different chess variants or just hang out and have fun with their friends and peers.
