The Knight Quarantine
TOWAMENCIN – History in the making. A watershed moment. Twelve magical hours of sleep per night. No matter what you call it, the COVID-19 pandemic is not going anywhere for quite a while, so the Knight Crier staff is here to keep you posted on how we’re passing the time – besides writing, of course!

With all the time to scroll through Tiktok, I’ve found threads upon threads of cool places to travel in the country! So, with this information, I dug out an old notebook and printed out a few maps and went to work on creating my dream road trip. Most of the time is spent totaling how much money the whole thing will cost, as well as research, but most of the time is spent just scrolling through the pictures of these places! I already have a good chunk of it planned out, so the only thing I have to do is convince my friends to do it with me! Well, that and get my drivers license and a car but one step at a time. If I can’t go anywhere, might as well think of where I can go after all this!

I’ve been trying to keep as busy as possible during self isolation. Some things I’ve been doing include playing MLB the Show, watching Suite Life of Zack and Cody and even hopping back on Fortnite after a long hiatus. I’ve also been trying to keep active and with gyms closed, state champion diver Meghan Wenzel recommended a YouTube channel that uploads workouts that require no equipment, so I’ve been doing a couple of the workouts a day. Just a reminder, please stay indoors so we can get back to normal life as soon as possible in the 215 and in the nation.

With this extended coronacation, my mom and I have decided to start training my dog, Romeo, tap touch signals. He’s both deaf and blind, so it’s really helpful to establish some sort of easy communication with him.

This year I have improved a lot on my Spanish and I am trying to get completely fluent, so I started reading a book in Spanish. The title translates to “The House of the Spirits.” I haven’t gotten very far in the book since I am slower at reading in Spanish, and I have to keep pausing to look up words I don’t know. Originally I thought I would read the book in the summer after school ends, but why not start now when I’m stuck at home. Hopefully by the time school opens again, I will be done with the book!

Besides posting aggressively about social distancing? I’ve been spending most of my time in sweatpants – watching American Idol and creating a detailed schedule that was scrapped within two days. I took my karate class on Zoom, curled my hair, and attempted to bake a coffee cake (which did NOT go well…). My greatest accomplishment? Spinning my lazy indulgences into a paragraph that suggests I’ve been reasonably productive this week.

When I’m not catching up on some sleep during quarantine you can find me baking in the kitchen, redecorating my room, dying my hair, or chilling with my puppy.

I’ve been watching 10 year old episodes of “The Amazing Race” and forcing myself to get out and walk a few miles every day.

One day, my friend sent our group chat a TikTok where a group of friends made Google Slides that documented their lives while in quarantine. My friends and I thought it’d be really fun to do, so we got our emails together, but we didn’t start until a few days later. It was 11 PM when the Google Slides was finally shared with everyone and since then, we’ve all been adding the most random things to the slides from memes to music to inside jokes. So far, we have over 50 slides and it’s continuing to grow each day.
