TOWAMENCIN – It’s that time of year again for the NPHS SGA candidates to hit the campaign trail. Candidate speeches will air April 28th. Here is a look at this year’s candidates.

  Presidential Candidates –

Nafiul Hossain

Why are you running for President?

I believe I will bring back legitimacy and leadership back to the SGA and of course also bringing the long awaited change to school. I can’t do that by seating on my couch at home, I will be able to do that if I become president.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

I am very adaptive to different situations, friendly to celebrities and also am willing to claw my way to the top using any means necessary.

Do you have a campaign slogan?

I am the Voice of the voicless. #NAF2015

Katie Solomon

Why are you running for President?

I am running to be President because I love North Penn and want to play a bigger role in making our school an even better place. I would like to continue the SGA activites that bring together the student body to make these few short, but too often stressful years of high school more enjoyable and memorable for everyone. I also would like to continue and develop our events that promote community service and giving back to our area such as the blood/clothing drives and charity fundraisers.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

I have been involved in SGA since the 7th grade and have been dedicated to it ever since. By serving as a senator, Spirit and Recognition Co-Chair, and attending various state and national camps and conferences I have gained insight as to how to be an effective leader and hope to have the opportunity to use my skills as your president and serve as a voice for the student body within the school.

Vice Presidential Candidates –

Sophie Kim

Why are you running for Vice President?

Over the years I have participated in many student government organizations and events. From 5th grade to now I have always enjoyed being a leader in student government to help make the school a better place. I loved being able to organize events that made students excited and high-spirited, such as homecoming festivities and the talent show. I hope to continue to organize great events for North Penn, but in a bigger role in SGA so I can have more input and make the 2015-2016 school year great.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

As I was a historian cabinet member of SGA this year, I was given the task of organizing and completing an application for the Gold National Council of Excellence for our SGA. By organizing and contributing to the application, my fellow historian and I were able to finish the application and turn it in to receive the award. I believe my time and effort dedicated to SGA prove that I am a worthy candidate to become Vice President. I will work dilligently to run all ICC meetings and make other North Penn events great for the student body, and faculty to enjoy. Through all my actions, I believe it is evident that I am a hard working, caring, and motivated candidate that deserves to be next year’s SGA Vice President.

Alex Van

Why are you running for Vice President?

I want to run for the position of VP because I want to be able to take on a more central role in the club while being able to support the views and ideas of the President. However, I do have my own opinions that I believe would be beneficial to the organization.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

I am consistently attentive, motivated, honest, and courageous. I will always give my 110% even if I have other things on my plate. I will be able to incite more ideas from club and sport leaders from each ICC meeting in order to elevate SGA, although it is already a great association. I am in touch with my student body and will always try to hype up events for SGA in order for the students to have the best time of their lives (spirit-wise), while also benefitting our school and community.

Treasurer Candidates –

Joseph John

Why are you running for Treasurer?

Managing the finances of SGA is an important and interesting job and having been a member of SGA for the past 2 years, I want to hold a more involved position, so serving as treasurer would be the perfect combination of these two.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

I was a senator in my sophomore year and I am currently in cabinet which has given me a deep understanding of SGA. I love SGA and I am committed to the fantastic work that this organization does and I regularly give up my time to work on events. My experience, passion, and dedication will help SGA reach its full potential and help the students as much as possible.

Chris Yang

Why are you running for Treasurer?

I am running for treasurer because I believe that my skill set best suits this job.  Being interested in both math and business, I think that I can help SGA manage their money using my knowledge gained from all I’ve learned up to AP Calculus and AP Statistics this year.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

I am detail-oriented, so I will meticulously check all budgets to make sure that everything is in order.  My determination and responsibility also drives me to do whatever it takes to help SGA not only including finance. I am experienced as well, being an officer in the Chess Club and Mathletics club, and also having been the Student Council President of Pennfield.

Corresponding Secretary Candidate –

Shivani Rathod

Why are you running for Corresponding Secretary?

I have enjoyed being a part of SGA Senate and Cabinet the past two years, and being elected to office will give me a chance to make a greater difference in our student council as well as our school.

Why do you deserve the vote of your peers? Why are you the best candidate?

I have a great amount of experience in leadership through my years in student council and from leadership workshops and conferences. I have also learned significant communication, organization, and team building skills, all of which are necessary for this position.
