As always, the posting of a cast list brings with it mixed emotions, but the lineup for the cast of Beauty and the Beast looks very promising. After lengthy rounds of callbacks, the leads and ensemble roles have been chosen.
Senior Kuhoo Verma is cast as Belle, the book-loving female lead in the musical. Opposite her is junior Matt Wynne as the ferocious Beast and senior Tyler Ivey as the conceited Gaston. The role of Gaston’s sidekick, Lefou, was given to senior Niko Markopulos. The dynamic duo of Lumiere and Cogsworth will be played by seniors Tucker Breder and Jacob Gallo. Senior Chelsea Aubert, who starred as Emily Webb in the North Penn Theatre’s fall production of Our Town, will be playing Mrs. Potts. Her character’s son Chip will be played by an elementary school student who has yet to be determined. Other household objects around the Beast’s castle include Madame – the wardrobe – who will be played by junior Melissa Fuhr, and Babette – the feather duster – who will be played by sophomore Jamie Devine. The enchantress who opens the show will be played by senior Kayla Cartwright. Lastly, the admiring Silly Girls who fawn over Gaston will be played by Alison Chapman, Nicole Mitchell, Danica Clauser, and Juliette Shipp. Other parts cast to a variety of students include the Be Our Guest/specialty dancers and singers, along with the townspeople.
Now that the cast list is posted, theatre students will be engaging in comprehensive rehearsals to explore their new characters. Beauty and the Beast will be performed on May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd at 7:30 pm with a special matinee show on Sunday, May 4th at 2 pm. Don’t miss out on this enormous and exciting production.
