TOWAMENCIN- The culmination of months of hard work took place Wednesday night, as the full gamut of North Penn’s musical talent was on display during the annual winter concert. Members of the Orchestra, Band, Wind Ensemble, Chorus, Men’s Choir and Contemporary Music Tech all performed selections to get North Penn into the holiday spirit.
“I think the best time for a concert like this to occur is the holidays,” said chorus director Mr. Matthew Klenk. “It’s a nice way to finish the hard work that they have been doing since they got in here in September.”
Anyone who saw the performances last night knew how much these musicians worked on their crafts.
“My kids have been working on this since late October,” said contemporary music tech director Mr. Daniel Tumolo. “I let the students pick the selections we worked on, and we went through many various steps to get to this point.”
The hard work paved the way for some fantastic performances, as everyone was in a festive mood last night, from the students to the teachers and the people in the audience.
“I’m so proud of all of them, it makes me want to get up there with them and share their energy!” remarked a parent in attendance.
The Winter Concert is more than just a showcase for the members of these musical groups, it also serves as an invitation for students on the fence about joining a music program.
“Well, music helps make us, I think, more interesting and more well-rounded people,” said Tumolo. “We have a great music program here, between all the performance groups and classes, I just think that any student with even a little bit of interest or ability should participate. You get to meet new people and you get to be in a good creative environment. There’s less of note-taking and power-points, more of doing things and taking in a different learning experience.”
A fantastic night was had by everyone at North Penn for a true showcase of musical ability that sends kids and adults alike into the holiday season with good spirits.
