TOWAMENCIN – Ever hear the phrase “one person can make a difference” and wonder how could that even be possible? North Penn juniors Emily Adelsberger and Madison Tanis are proving it really does just take a good idea and hard work from individuals to make a difference in people’s lives.
The two students have created a new organization called Love Your Brother Project to benefit Bayard Taylor Elementary School in Philadelphia that was hit hard by the education budget cuts. When asked why she chose to help a school in Philadelphia, Adelsberger remarked, “I think this project is a good reminder to the community how lucky we are and that we live very close to children who aren’t as lucky.”
From November 6th through the 22nd, North Penn will be holding an art and school supplies fundraiser to help the school. Possible donations include pencils, notebooks, sports equipment, and other useful items for the school day. Students and faculty are encouraged to drop off these items in various boxes around the school, like outside the school store and cafeteria. Anyone interested in Key Club hours can also benefit personally from this drive by dropping off supplies in front of the athletic office in the gym lobby.
Clubs as a whole at North Penn are also encouraged to contribute. “Clubs can help by not only encouraging their members to participate, but also by having specific meeting dates where they come together as a team and compile their donations,” said Adelsberger.
The overall goal for the collection is to raise $10,000 worth of supplies, which will go towards lessening the $350,000 budget cuts placed on Bayard Taylor.
Emily and Madison hope the student body gets excited about this worthwhile project: “We’re doing what we can do to make a difference, but we can only do so much. Now it’s up to North Penn to make it happen!”
