TOWAMENCIN – Anyone walking into the North Penn HS gymnasium on Friday for the homecoming pep rally during ninth period would have felt the school spirit of the North Penn students, and there is no doubt, the NP student body is a spirited bunch.
Kicking off with a show from the cheerleaders, the girls had a great impact on the crowd in getting them fired up. As they exited the floor to cheers, scooters were lined up for the ‘Scooter Gran Prix’. Representatives from each fall sport, including girls and boy’s soccer, field hockey, girls and boy’s water polo and volleyball, scrambled across the gym floor, with the boys soccer team taking the victory.
“It’s always fun, you know, doing this stuff. It’s great that we can still get competitive in something like this and have a good time.” water polo player Ryan Prater commented after he gave a trying effort in the relay.
The North Penn Dance Team was next on the floor. With their energetic dance moves, they put on a great routine for the crowd and really got them excited. They left the crowd in denial about what could beat the previous performance, but to their surprise, the students were proven wrong.
The teachers did not want to go unsung, so a dance team of their own was essential in completing the pep rally.
“This is great!” was the statement junior Hannah Selheimer made laughingly as she watched her Chemistry teacher, Mr. King, dance in front of the school.
It was a solid effort to make their students laugh; however, it was also a good way to get the teachers pumped up about the event to come: the tug of war.
The highly awaited tug of war event, a sore spot in North Penn student pride, was again won by the determined teachers. After what seemed like minutes of stalemate, the teachers finally managed to bring the football players to the floor and haul the rope to their side.
“We’ll get them next year, I guess” Junior Cara Landis said lightheartedly after the festivities.
Wrapping up with the homecoming court processing in by wild cheers and a final recruiting speech for fans by senior Austin Shearer, the rally came to a close. It was a terrific start to the events to come later that night in Crawford Stadium.
