TOWAMENCIN – North Penn’s Student Government Association was in for a treat on Thursday afternoon as Pennsylvania’s Representative Todd Stephens gave eager students critical advice about the political field. Not only did he inform the SGA about his role in the US government, he expressed how beneficial governmental and political high school organizations are for young adults.
“Well I think it’s terrific. It’ an opportunity to help improve their school and help gain leadership roles in their schools and make their school a better place for all the students involved, and it’s a great entrée into what’s next. Being involved in political service and community service is a great way of life.” Stephens said.
Stephens expressed that being employed within the political field is very challenging, stating “You’ve got to be able to disagree without being disagreeable.” Although his job comes with unpredictability he persuaded the audience that maintaining a respectful manner throughout hardships is key.
In spite of the everyday disputes and demanding roles as a political leader, Stephens explained that his job is worth it.
“I can help on such a broader range of issues that it’s just tremendously rewarding,” he added.
Closing out his speech by taking numerous questions that articulated his political views and questions that expressed his personal opinion about his political occupation, a booming applause reverberated through the room as Representative Stephens left a lasting impression on the North Penn’s SGA.
