AMBLER – While looking fabulous in their “Keep Calm and Read On” t-shirts, members of the North Penn High School’s Reading Olympics team brought home the highest achievement, a blue ribbon, in the Reading Olympics competition, held at Wissahickon High School on Tuesday, April 2nd.
Encompassing about 45 books, the competition demanded a passion for literature and an extraordinary level of teamwork. The team had been preparing for the competition since the beginning of the school year.
“The competition was such a great experience because our team was able to work together really well,” said an exhilarated president of the Reading Olympics club Kokila Shankar. “Within our three rounds, everyone on the team got a chance to give an answer, which is really fantastic since that means everyone read different books and was able to contribute.”
This event also brought the members of the team closer.
“We bonded over the pre-competition party,” Shankar explained, “and the silly little things that we said and did during the event, and the feeling of teamwork and dedication to this club [had brought us closer].”
The competition included other teams from across the Montgomery County.
“We also got a chance to meet kids from other schools and make friends with them. Overall, it was just a fun event,” said Shankar.
