Green Room: Appreciating All Types of Theater

In contrast to common belief, Green Room does not have any connection to saving the planet from global warming; the Green Room club and the Energy Troopers do not have epic battles on who can save the most energy. It is actually named after the room where actors can relax when they are not on stage which was originally painted green. The purpose of Green Room is to “appreciate all types of theater”, said President Sarah Kaelin. The club goes on many trips throughout the school year including many seasonal favorites like the Bates Motel, the Renaissance Fair, and the upcoming trip to New York City on February 2nd. In New York they will first go to the TKT kiosk in Time Square buy tickets to Broadway matinees of their choice, go out to lunch, and each go to their perspective shows.

Other than special trips, Green Room hosts specific movie nights including classic movie night and Disney movie night. In the past they have watched movies such as The Princess Bride, Back to the Future, and Lion King. Parties are also a big part of Green Room, and in March there is a murder mystery night held at a member’s house where three different games are going on at once and guests have to figure out who the killer is. The biggest party of the year, though, is the end of the year anti pool party, because no member has a pool. Along with appreciating theater, green room also appreciates food, and every party has a lot of food involved. Green Room also collaborates with other clubs, such as the Improv Troupe, who performs at some meetings. Fundraisers are held to help BCEFA, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids.

There are $10 dues to join and if you join a newsletter will be sent to your ninth period every week to tell you when the next meeting is and what the next word up is. Word up is a word specifically picked out to be used somewhere in the meeting. If you notice when the word up is used you just shout word up and you win a $10 gift card. Green Room meets the first Thursday of every month in A33, but the next meeting is on the 31st of January because of the New York trip on February 2nd, 2013.
