TOWAMENCIN- On Wednesday November 28th, North Penn’s Italian Club held their annual meeting in the FCS kitchen to make minestrone soup for charity. Led by adviser Mrs. Lisa Krzemian and president senior Jason DeStefano, the Italian Club cooked enough soup to serve more than 25 people at Manna on Main Street in Lansdale.
Minestrone is a traditional Italian soup composed of pasta, vegetables, and spices based in a chicken broth. The first step of the process was dicing all the veggies including onions, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, and zucchini. When all the ingredients were prepared, students added them together in a large pot to simmer for about an hour.
In the down time, club members had an opportunity to lay back and enjoy each other’s company. According to senior Maddi Biletz, “it was nice to have a lot of time to relax and get to know each other while the soup was cooking because we don’t have a lot of meetings as a club.”
After an hour of club bonding, the soup was finally done cooking and all members had an opportunity to try a small cup before Krzemian delivered to the soup to Manna. The delicious scent of the finished product could be detected throughout the halls of K-Pod, and a few lucky passersby including biology teacher Mr. David C. Kim sampled the Minestrone.
“It was a great experience,” said DeStefano. “It was awesome to be able to have a great time with all the Italian Club members while helping the community at the same time. It’s a great feeling.”
The next Italian Club meeting will be on December 12th where they will be baking Christmas cookies. For more information about getting involved in Italian Club, contact Jason DeStefano or Mrs. Krzemian at
