TOWAMENCIN-Last Friday evening, North Penn high school kicked off its homecoming festivities with the second annual “Pregame Party” hosted by the Student Government Association. Although last year’s party had many shortcomings, the SGA members worked tirelessly this fall to ensure that this year was exponentially better.
According to SGA president Katie Marino, the fundamental problem with last year’s tailgate was the food. They underestimated the amount of food they would need to adequately satiate the crowd, and what they did have to serve was less than impressive in quality. With a year of experience under their belt, the SGA eliminated this problem via more deliberate organization as well as a swap of caterers from Ted’s Montana Grill to Moe’s Southwest Grill.
For a ticket costing only $20, party attendees were provided with a game ticket, a black tee shirt to correspond with the planned blackout against CB south, a rally towel, and a Mexican style meal. Students were offered tacos (hard or soft shell, beef or chicken), fresh iced tea, cookies for dessert, and unlimited chips and salsa.
“I thought Moe’s Southwest Grill did an awesome job catering, and the tacos were delicious so that was a plus too,” reflected Marino.
Senior Emma Laurens agreed that the food was excellent. “I ate way too many chips though!” she joked.
Additionally, by incorporating tailgate style games including corn hole, ladder ball, and even an inflatable obstacle course, the SGA made sure that students had a surplus of entertainment options in addition to an opportunity to spend time with their peers.
North Penn students of all grades enjoyed this experience, and surprisingly enough, it was also a great opportunity for students around the world. For the next two weeks, North Penn families will be hosting around 40 German exchange students. On their first full day in the states, the pregame party and homecoming festivities were their first taste of American culture.
Laura Neumann, a 16-year-old exchange student from the school Schubart Gymnasium located Aalen, Germany, reflected on her first experience in the United States.
“There was an amazing atmosphere at the pregame party and the game which was a little overwhelming, but I enjoyed it a lot,” she explained. “We don’t have anything like that in Germany.”
The Pregame garnered positive feedback from all who attended. Students should look forward to the 2013 homecoming festivities and follow Marino’s advice: “This year was awesome and we can expect the pregame party to continue to get better and better with each year, so come on out next year for another great time.”
