Whether you are an experienced equestrian aficionado, or have never been on a horse before, if you like horses, the Knight Riders Equestrian Club is the club for you. The Knight Riders participate in many different activities from movies and trail rides to speakers and trips.
The Knight Riders partake in trail rides in many locations, such as Evansburg State Park and Fog Mt. Farm where inexperienced riders can learn to ride. Some members who own horses bring them, but you defiantly don’t have to own a horse to join; horses will be provided.
According to Dr. Leithold, the club’s advisor, the purpose of Knight Riders is to “promote the interest of equestrian care.” To learn more about the care of horses, the Knight Riders go on trips to working farms in Delaware Valley. Last year they went on a trip to the Lipizzan Stallion Show where riders from all around the world bring famous Lipizzan white stallions to perform.
The Knight Riders also host speakers in order to learn more about horses and horse care. Last year there were speakers from the Pennsylvania Equine Search and Rescue Team and a National Champion endurance record holder.
In the month of December there is also a sky show in the North Penn planetarium on horse constellations that is open to the public. Besides going on trips, the Knight Riders watch horse related movies like Secretariat and take care of their club mascot Duvalin a pinto Paso Fino. Duvalin was the horse some of you saw at the activity fair. Paso Finos are named for the special way they walk, because “you don’t bounce when you ride them like normal horses, you sway” said proud owner Dr. Leithold.
The Knight Riders meet at 2:30 the third Wednesday of every month in C18. For more information about the Knight Riders contact Dr. Leithold at [email protected].
