TOWAMENCIN- As countless cases of midyear woes have begun to strike North Penn, Thursday’s annual fashion show proved to infuse a much needed dose of glamour and glitz into an otherwise typical late winter school day, and reminded us that spring, prom season and well.. . the glamour of summer are right around the corner.
This year, the show unveiled the elements of fashion. Around sixty FCS clothing and design students strutted down the aisles in their hand-made garments designed with the themes of fire, wind, water, and Earth in mind. The students and their teachers, Mrs. Townsend and Mrs. Galaton, have spent all year planning for the event and constructing their outfits.
“It’s a whole long process,” said Mrs. Townsend. “We start by picking a theme in the beginning of the year. There’s the video, which Mr. Berger helps us with. There’s the lights and the music mixes which Mr. Gilmer helps us with. We try to have everything go with the theme. ”
The hard work certainly paid off, as the event provided a great time for participants, parents, students, and teachers alike. The dance team’s impressive performance provided a perfect introduction and the set the tone for a chic showing.
Along with their hand-made garments, the girls and guys strutted down the runways with complete hair and makeup styling providing by North Montco Technical students as well as Styles Unlimited.
“I just love the glitter, the hair, and the makeup. We had a fabulous turnout this year,” said senior fashionista Chris Markle. “The show has been the highlight of my year every since I came to North Penn. I seriously idolize Ms. G and Ms. T.”
Markle is by no means the only student to feel such a connection to North Penn’s Clothing and Design classes. Career study senior Liz Pogas boasts that the entire experience has been “amazing.” Although the FCS department is often overlooked at North Penn, the fashion show sheds light on the programs’ strength and rewards the dedicated students with well-deserved praise and admiration from their peers.
“The fashion show gives students a chance to shine who may not be stars on the athletic field or academic stars. It’s their big day in the spotlight and I think it’s really important. We’ve had some kids go on to some really prestigious schools,” explained Mrs. Galaton.
“Everyone is creative in their own way. This is one of the facets that allows someone to show their individuality. We call fashion class ‘home’ here at North Penn,” added Mrs. Townsend.
The fashion show was a dual success: It spotlighted the deserving FCS department while enlightening the audience with the quintessential elements of vogue.
