TOWAMENCIN – After all of the students left on October 27th the senior cafeteria became something out of the imagination of J.K. Rowling with orange and black streamers dangling from the ceiling, spider webs, and skeletons and haunted music, with little ghosts and goblins flying in. Children of teachers and kids in the community were invited to the Halloween party held from 6-7:30 pm, which is sponsored by the Youth Education Association (YEA).
Many activities were created by the club members including games and arts and crafts. Children expressed their creativity through decorating sparkly pumpkin and bat shaped magnets with stickers and googly eyes. Cute ghosts were constructed using streamers and paper plates. To look even more ghoulish, face painting was available. After spending energy making works of art, a whole feast of orange iced cookies and cupcakes were ready to be devoured with glasses of red punch full of gummy worms.
Of course, no party is complete without a spoon and egg relay race. To top the fiesta off, a colorful donkey piñata was elevated in the air as kids eagerly waited in line for their turn. As the end drew near, children were given little goodie bags and prizes.
“I think it is a great experience for the kids,” a mother at the event stated, impressed with all of the costumes and decorations.
When the festivities were over, Abbey Parrott, a club member, remarked “It is really fun. It’s nice to hang out with kids and help them with crafts.”
“It is a lot of fun, and a lot of work, but it is really cool to see everything come together with the four different committees,” the Vice President of YEA, Cassie Witner, expressed her content with how the party turned out.
