Dreams sometimes don’t come true; in the case of the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles “Dream Team” the dream hasn’t come true, at least not yet.
With an offseason full of big free agent signings such as Nnamdi Asomugha, Cullen Jenkins, Jason Babin, Ronnie Brown, and former first round pick Vince Young; and also a blockbuster trade for Kevin Kolb for the Arizona Cardinals Dominique Rodgers- Cromartie. Expectations were high for the Vince Young declared “Dream Team.”
The Eagles have fallen out bed and woken up from the dream, as they now sit at a 1-4, a record no team would be proud of, and no city wants to see.
Last season ended with a disappointing loss to the now Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, ending with a Michael Vick interception. Vick had career highs in almost every passing category last season and fans were hoping he would bridge that success to this season. He has not.
The glaring problem on the Eagles porous defense is at the linebacker position, Coach Andy Reid has been neglecting this issue for years and has not addressed it in free agency or the draft. His “solution” to the linebacker problem is rookie Casey Mathews, who is an inexperienced rookie who has not stepped up in pass or run defense.
Many people think that the offensive line coach turned defensive coordinator is the issue, but he does have defensive experience, he just hasn’t used it since coaching in 1989. It might take some time to knock the rust off, but at a 1-4 record, he needs to knock it off soon or he runs the risk of getting fired.
The Eagles who had such high hopes for a successful 2011 now seem to just be hoping to scrape by. It seems as if all the Eagles can hope for now is a high draft pick.

I would like to comment on the part about Vick. Vick came into the system with no standers, with no expectations. People expected nothing from him, so of course it came as a massive shock when he played as well as he did.
