Final from New Orleans: Birds flying home with the Lombardi

Final from New Orleans: Birds flying home with the Lombardi

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Super Bowl night, giving the Eagles their second championship since 2018 and destroying any hopes of the Chiefs becoming the first-ever NFL franchise to three-peat during the Super Bowl era.

At halftime, the Eagles were up 24-0. A quick one-yard rush by quarterback Jalen Hurts, a pick-six by the birthday boy defensive back Cooper DeJean, and a twelve-yard touchdown catch by wide receiver A.J. Brown set the tone for the first half of the game.

The momentum in the second half kept going for the Eagles as they continued scoring. Their defense denied any magic from Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. In the end, the Chiefs tried their best to close the gap, but the Birds were certified victorious in this battle. They had the lead the entire time and controlled the game’s flow. Their defense sacked Mahomes six times and intercepted him twice, limiting his options and forcing the offense to panic and make poor decisions.

Hurts ended up winning the Most Valuable Player award, marking his first MVP. If he continues this level of production, he could win more sooner than we think.

What’s Next for Both Teams?

The Chiefs have a dynasty going on here. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are being referred to as the new Tom Brady and the Patriots. Even with this loss, they still have a great team and should be back in contention next year.

As for the champion Eagles, they filled every hole they needed to fill. They worked hard to address every weakness, and they are also expected to be contenders next year. We will see if the Chiefs can continue to build on their dynasty and whether the birds can defend their crown.
