TOWAMENCIN – Remaining unbeaten, North Penn boys’ cross country team secured team win number five against Souderton on Tuesday afternoon. With some big performances and many of the guys breaking some personal records, the Knights are looking strong headed into the final leg of the season.
In 21-40 victory over visiting Souderton. scoring for the Knights were Justin Landis, Achilles Shui, Shane Myers, Joey Sharkey, Caleb Rothenberger, Owen Cary, and Matthew Connelly.
Before the meet the Knights were filled with plenty of confidence.
“We have all come a long way since the summer and since last year especially. We have a much stronger pack this year with about 8-10 guys every workout,” Achilles Shui said after placing 2nd in today’s race.
But it wasn’t just the runners who thought the entire team had improved. Coach Mike Werner was excited to see the guys run today and knew the hard work they had put in was paying off.
“They have been doing great, it’s been an awesome season. It’s funny, we have made a lot of progress this season but we still have a lot to go. The bar has been set high by our captains and they are incredible, we have had guys who have been around for a while and these guys have been committed to building this team the right way, Coach Werner elaborated.
The improvements have just been steadily building for some of the captains on the team but most importantly the younger guys who have been working with their captains to get better.
“I have already beaten my time from last season and the team is doing great so far but there is always room for improvement,” Shane Myers, who beat his personal record, explained.
With this dual meet against Souderton treading into the later parts of the season the guys have made themselves a force to be reckoned with making their record 5-0. The Cross Country Knights are back in action this Saturday, October 5th with a meet at William Tennent to cap their regular season.
